My Sunday Routine To Organize for the Week

Sundays are the last day of the weekend and a perfect opportunity to position yourself for the work week ahead. I've put together a Sunday routine that helps me to enjoy my last day of relaxing and unwinding while also teeing myself up for the week ahead by simplifying the tasks ahead of me and reducing stress by having planned ahead. Practicing self-care is important and taking one day a week to keep yourself organized but relaxed is a great way to make sure you're entering the busy week in the best frame of mind.

Survey your weekly calendar and take note of relevant information
I spend about 20 minutes with my calendar for the upcoming week and charting out what needs to get done. From there, I create a tickler list of everything that I anticipate needing to be able to finish my weekly tasks and keep it all within my planner so everything I need can be found in one place.

So, for instance, I make sure to put aside my dry cleaning ticket and the money to pay for the service so that I can make that experience even quicker. I'll record any tracking numbers for packages that I'm expecting so I don't have to search through my emails to pull that information up. I'll take note of any household or grocery items that I need and keep that list tucked away in my planner. I'll set up payments or confirm auto payments on any bills due that week.

Spending even a few minutes on Sunday thinking about what you can anticipate needing during the week frees that time up in the week and keeps you on task. It can also help inform you of what you have left to accomplish in the week - for instance, a trip to the ATM may be in order to get the money needed to pick up the dry cleaning, and now you've got a better handle of what you need before you find yourself stuck without it.

Plan weekly lunches
I try to prepare lunch for at least the first half of the work week and treat myself to affordable takeout for the second half. I'll spend about an hour preparing and packaging my lunches for the week so that I can very quickly grab it on my way out the door during the work week.

I also try to cook in bulk and freeze the excess - this way, I have a lunch option for later in the week if I decide not to order in, or I can have a lazy Sunday the following week by not having to prepare my meals.

Plan weekly outfits
Getting dressed each morning used to take up so much time for me each morning until I switched to planning my outfits for the week. I'll spend 30 minutes reviewing the weekly weather forecast and then pulling the appropriate clothing. It gives me the opportunity to iron or steam any clothing that requires it and saves me a ton of time each morning because I have one less thing to think about.

Treat yo self
Sundays are my weekly beauty days which is my real chance to unwind. I don't time myself for this part because I want to be able to enjoy the experience without thinking about the clock. I'll put on a face mask, give myself a mani/pedi, throw a deep conditioning treatment in my hair - anything to give myself a spa-like experience in the comfort of my own home.

It's also my chance to catch up on the shows I missed in the week or watch a movie so that I'm really zoning out and freeing up my mind before the work week starts.

Start heading to bed early
I enjoy my weekends and take full advantage by staying up late on a Friday and Saturday. But by Sunday, my sleep schedule is a little thrown off. I begin getting myself into bed much earlier than when I actually intend to sleep so that I can begin getting myself into a sleep pattern. I might still stay up to read a book or watch TV, but physically being in bed mentally tricks my brain into thinking about going to sleep. I'm usually drowsy right before my usual bedtime so I can get a good night's sleep before the first day of the work week.
