My Skin Care Faves
I definitely don't have perfect skin but I've gotten my skin in its best shape and have continued to improve on it. I've gone from oily/combination skin to experiencing the occasional dry patch or break out which means I have to switch up my skin care depending on how my skin's doing. Here are the products that have helped me the most.
Makeup Removal
Taking off my makeup is key - I have to pull out the impurities in order for any skin care products to truly sink in and have their best benefits. I remove my eye makeup with Philosophy's Just Release Me and my face makeup with Dior's HydraLife Oil to Milk Makeup Removing Cleanser, wiping everything off with a damp washcloth. I use Dior's cleansing water (recently repackaged and renamed) to remove any residue or stubborn mascara.
Cleansing
I used to use a Clarisonic until I noticed that my skin was irritated by using the harsh nylon bristles on the cleaning brush. I made the switch to the Foreo Luna 2 which is made of medical grade silicone, more gentle and because I don't have to replace the brush heads, far cheaper in the long run! I pair it with my Murad Clarifying Cleanser, which contains salicylic acid, to keep my skin clean and clear. A swipe of my Dior Gentle Toning Lotion (when needed) makes sure that any last trace of dirt is out of my skin.
AM Skin Care
Each morning I start with Urban Decay's B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray - it includes willowbark and B6, two clearing and calming products my skin loves. I use Origins' Eye Doctor eye cream, which is super moisturizing and relieves the dry skin I sometimes get around my eyes. I top off my face with Ole Henriksen's Counter Balance moisturizer (newly renamed and repackaged) to seal in moisture while nourishing my skin with this formula containing oat flour and vitamins.
PM Skin Care
To remoisturize after makeup removal and washing my face, I turn to Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Treatment Lotion Mist - it contains coffee beans which firms and tightens skin in this moisturizing blend. To calm and clarify, I use Origins' Original Skin Essence Lotion, which contains willowherb, a clarifying agent. I moisturize with Ole Henriksen's Invigorating Night Transformation creme which includes AHAs and shea butter to retexturize and nourish my skin. To heal the occasional breakout, I'll spot correct with Kate Somerville's EradiKate Acne Treatment. Its sulfur-based formula is great for drying out pimples gently but effectively.
Masks
I'm a big fan of a weekly mask to clear out and treat my skin. I love using Origins masks because they're super affordable and effective. I start with the Maskimizer spray which preps my skin to best absorb the mask I'll use. On weeks where I have skin texture, I'll use the Original Skin mask with rose clay (a great clearing ingredient) and jojoba beads (which helps retexturize my skin). The Clear Improvement mask with active charcoal is gentle but effective at clearing up any breakouts, and the Drink Up Intensive mask is a great overnight mask with avocado oil to eliminate dry patches instantly.
