Crafter's Delight: Glittery Makeup Brush Holder
I love upcycling and reusing items to fit new needs. I had this really great, sturdy glass candle jar that I wanted to turn into a glitzy makeup brush holder - and I'm so pleased with the results!
Here's what you'll need:
- A glass candle jar
- Rubbing alcohol
- Lint-free paper towels
- Ruler
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Sharp crafting scissors
- Glitter paper
- Ribbon
- Spray adhesive
- Hot glue gun
And here are the DIY details:
I started by clearing all the wax out of the jar and used rubbing alcohol and lint-free paper towels to clean out any waxy residue and to make sure the glues would properly stick to the jar.
I then used a measuring tape from my sewing kit to take measurements to cut the glitter paper and ribbon to the correct size. I added a little extra length to be sure the paper and ribbon wrapped around and could be glued down correctly.
Here's the glitter paper that I cut to scale. I used my ruler and sharp crafting scissors to cut the paper to the right size.
I then laid the glitter paper face down on some plain printer paper and used some spray adhesive to coat the paper with glue.
Here's the jar after the glitter paper was successfully glued down. I used the edge of my finger nail to quickly pick up any excess glue before it dried and settled. This looked fabulous already, but I wanted to add a little extra something special to the jar.
I used a hot glue gun to secure silver mesh ribbon around the jar as a layered border over the glitter paper. I had a little excess ribbon left over after I was done.
To secure it, I trimmed the excess ribbon and used my hot glue to secure the edges - it creates a clean finish and makes sure the ribbon doesn't fray over time.
And here's the finished product! I'm super pleased with the results and it now coordinates with my existing makeup brush holders - you'll see the large silver jars I use to store my other makeup brushes off in the corner.
