My Favorite Products for Curly Hair

Curly haired folks, you get me - finding the right products to make your hair look its best can be a struggle. Curly hair requires special attention in order to hydrate and define curls in the right way.

I've tried a number of products over the years and I've come to rely on a handful of products that get the job done effectively. Here are my favorite products for giving my curls life!

Shampoo and Conditioner:

There are a number of great shampoos and conditioners out on the market but I come back to Mixed Chicks because it works well for the price. I don't have to use much product in order to clean my hair and give it a great conditioning. Their Sulfate-Free Shampoo gives a thorough but gentle cleansing that doesn't strip my hair of good oils. The Detangling Deep Conditioner is a must for curly hair as curls tend to get knotted and tangled pretty easily. My fingers and combs slide right through my hair when I place this conditioner in my hair.

Once a week, I use one of my favorite face washes, Philosophy's Purity Made Simple as a clarifying shampoo to remove any product buildup that might collect throughout the week. I came across this hack in a Philosophy ad and now I'm completely hooked! I use a hair mask to put moisture back into my hair. Of all the hair masks I've tried, I love using the Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask - a small scoop of this creamy, moisturizing mask treats and conditions my hair and puts so much spring in my curly hair as I dry it in a microfiber towel.

Styling

I tend to use small amounts of three products to style my hair - something to help define my curls, something to condition them to reduce tangles and knots, and something to hold the style in place.

I start by using a curl defining product. I usually switch between Moroccanoil's Intense Curl Cream or their Treatment Original oil depending on how much moisture my hair might need. These are very rich products, so once again, I can use a small amount to get the best results.

My hair can get pretty tangled so a leave-in conditioner is a great way to prevent knots and tangles. Mixed Chick's Leave-In Conditioner not only conditions and prevent tangles but it's thick and rich enough to act as a styling product as well.

To lock in my curls, I rely on DevaCurl Ultra Defining Gel. It's super thick but pliable, so I can twirl my curls into position and use this gel to keep them looking great. Best of all, this gel doesn't dry to a crispy, crunchy finish. It has all the benefits of a strong hold gel without the crunch.
