How To Fix and Prevent "Glasses Marks"

I normally wear contact lenses, but every now and then I like to switch it up and wear my glasses. But have you ever noticed that glasses tend to rub the foundation off the sides and bridge of your nose? Glasses marks can get even the best of us and it's one of my makeup pet peeves. But thankfully, there are ways to keep your glasses from ruining your makeup.
Consider the Fit and Shape of Your Glasses
Heavier or larger frames will invariably rest on more of your face and stand a good chance of disturbing the makeup underneath. Loose-fitting glasses can also cause your frames to slide around more than they should. Consider smaller, lighter frames that fit more snugly on your face to minimize the risk of your glasses rubbing off your makeup.
Tip: Place, don't slide, your glasses onto your face - and lift your glasses off when it's time to remove them. Sliding your glasses on or off is a surefire way to effectively rub your foundation right off.
If you do have any product buildup on your frames, be sure to remove it before putting your glasses back on. The buildup prevents your glasses from sitting properly on your face and can cause them to slide around on your face.
Less is More
Wearing thinner layers of makeup is always your best bet since it looks more natural - and your glasses will also thank you. A thicker makeup application will make the indentation of your glasses on your face all the more prominent.
Switch Up Your Foundation And Concealer
Glasses marks are more prominent over liquid or creme foundations over powder product, so consider switching up the products you use when wearing glasses.
If you love a liquid or creme foundation (and I hear you, because I fall in that camp as well), then try a long-wearing formula. Long-wearing foundations and concealers do better at withstanding glasses. Here are some of my personal picks:
Primer is Your Friend
A good primer will make sure that your makeup wears evenly and lasts throughout the day. Try applying a long-wearing primer over the areas where your glasses will rest on your face. I even like to include a light layer of eyeshadow primer for extra help in keeping my makeup in place under my glasses. Some of my road-tested picks include:
- Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
- Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
Setting Powders and Sprays Make The Difference
Locking in your makeup is always your best bet for making sure it lasts throughout the day. Setting powders and sprays protect your look and add a layer of protection from your glasses. Try these setting powders:
- Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
- Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder
- Givenchy Poudre Premiere Loose Powder
For my money, Urban Decay makes the best setting sprays in the game and they make such a difference in the longevity of my makeup. The All-Nighter version is truly the best.
Tip: Try baking the areas where your glasses rests on your face. Even with my biggest sunglasses, baking has saved me from those pesky glasses indentations.
Know How to Fix Glasses Marks
On hot, humid summer days, my makeup can only withstand the elements but for so long - and I'm left with some glasses marks after taking off my sunglasses or regular glasses. But with the right tricks to fix the problem, my makeup can go back to looking just as fresh as it did when I first applied it.
- Buff, don't rub or wipe, your makeup back into place. Buffing the makeup around the areas that rubbed off will make an immediate difference in the overall look of the marks.
- Conceal and powder any gaps. If you've got some noticeable product separation, buff a small amount of concealer over the affected areas and set it with a light dusting of powder.
Now you've got the best tips for making sure that your specs won't ruin your amazing makeup look - so go on out and rock those frames!
