My Foundation Collection
I've been on a major foundation kick lately. As I get older and my skin changes, I'm always in the hunt for a foundation that'll work to meet my needs and the look I'm going for.
Above, you'll see my foundation collection - and I'm completely aware that I have way more foundation than any one person possibly needs. I'll discuss them from left to right with my favorites highlighted in bold.
- Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation: This foundation is great for more natural days. I don't tend to grab for it too often because it does dry to a tacky finish which I immediately set with powder to stop my skin from feeling that way.
- Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide: While the shade range leaves something to be desired, you will find this foundation provides great coverage and blurs imperfections. I tend to use this foundation when I have a breakout I'm looking to hide.
- Laura Mercier Silk Creme Oil Free: Laura Mercier reformulated their classic Silk Creme foundation to create an oil-free and moisturizing version. I loved the original version but have a hard time falling in love with the newer version. Sometimes reformulating a product can take away the best parts of the foundation and this is a prime example. It tends to lay on top of skin rather than blend in, so it requires a lot of buffing to really make it work. Even as an oil-free version, there's no way it can't be powdered in order to last through the day.
- Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation: On to a winner! Urban Decay's Naked Skin Foundation covers up a multitude of sins while really blending into the skin for a flawless finish. I often forget how much I like this foundation but every time I put it on I'm reminded of how amazing it is.
- MAC ProLongwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation: This foundation lives up to its name - it's sweat proof, budge proof, and in a rarity for MAC foundations, is very light. I tend to break this out during the summer or on days where I don't think I'll have too much time to touch up. Longwear formulas can dry out skin, and this foundation can do that to my skin if I wear it too often.
- DiorSkin Nude Foundation: Another fantastic foundation for coverage and finish. It really does look like skin on the face, though a note of caution that it does oxidize throughout the day.
- DiorSkin Nude Air Serum: This is my holy grail foundation - it is truly the most natural and yet full coverage foundation that doesn't feel like a mask on my face. This is easily the foundation I grab for the most and I'm constantly in search of a backup for because I can't bear to be without it! It gives my skin a great glow without looking greasy or oily. It also contains skincare benefits that I feel help my skin with each wear.
- DiorSkin Forever: The longwear version of Dior's Star foundation, this is the foundation I'll grab for special occasions or photographs - it's budge proof and doesn't flash back in pictures. It's also not so drying for a longwear formula.
- DiorSkin Star: This foundation is Dior's most full coverage foundation - but once again, it's not at all heavy or cakey. It provides the same finish as its longwear counterpart and I'll use this for hiding blemishes.
- Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Stick Foundation: This creme stick foundation is great for covering up imperfections with its high pigmentation but it can be quite heavy at times. I'll sometimes use this as a concealer which is my favorite use for it.
- Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation: The reformulated version of MUFE's HD foundation keeps the same level of coverage while feeling much lighter on the skin. It can be sheered out without losing its benefits. It's designed for photos and video, so it's a great option for special occasions.
- Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+: Yet another natural foundation that doesn't compromise on coverage. It controls oil and shine while lasting throughout the day.
- Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion: This is a close runner up to my favorite DiorSkin Nude Air Serum - it feels super light on the skin though it provides slightly lighter coverage in comparison, though it can be layered if need be.
- Giorgio Armani Designer Lift: It's said that this foundation also firms skin though I'm not sure if that claim is quite true. Still, like the Armani foundations I've tried, it provides medium coverage that's also buildable.
- Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk: There's a reason this foundation is a cult favorite - it provides light, flawless, buildable coverage without looking cakey. It gives my skin that "lit from within" look that I enjoy. It also has great staying power on the face.
