Manicure of the Week/First Impressions: Dark Autumn Nails
Fall is here! Fall is my absolute favorite season and I enjoy the darker colors of autumn. I'll wear a dark manicure any time of the year but it's clear that you can get away with it more in fall.
While at my local Walgreens I found this dark, vampy shade called Nemesis from CoverGirls's Outlast Stay Brilliant line of nail polish. I have a ton of dark polishes - each one that I believe is somehow unique! - but this one had enough of a purple undertone in it to seem more unique than many of my other darker polishes, with a black, brown or red base to them. And at $6.50 for the bottle, it was worth a shot.
CoverGirl claims this polish contains a base coat, pigment and top coat in one bottle so that no additional products are necessary. Customer reviews indicate that the polish has great wear to it, which I'm particularly keen on - by day three, I usually touch up or even redo my nails because I don't like the way they look anymore.
My first impressions of the polish? It's a fantastic color at a great price - both of which are right up my alley. And as a sucker for packaging this bottle looks lovely. The bottle immediately struck me as very similar to Chanel's Le Vernis nail polishes but at a fraction of the $28 Chanel retail price.
When applying the polish, I was struck by the thickness of the formula. It was difficult to get the thin layers you want to paint with at first but I eventually got the hang of it. I worried about bubbling or a long dry time, but as I mentioned in my posting about my manicure essentials, Seche Vite top coat creates a high-gloss finish and dries everything down quickly while eliminating the appearance of bubbling on polish. I got complete opacity in two coats.
Overall, I'm pleased with the polish. It did require a bit of work but applied beautifully once I figured out how to work with it. I'm ultimately a sucker for great colors and I find that the right base and top coats will allow me to make just about any formula work and apply well. I'll keep testing the polish to see how it wears throughout the week as I'm eager to buy more polishes from this range.
In the mean time, I'm enjoying my favorite season with my favorite manicure look - vampy nails! What's your fall manicure look? Leave a comment below with your fall manicure recommendations.
